The Amsterdam section of the Socialistenbond (ET: Socialists’ League) had written Kuyper to ask if he would join a debate night organized by the section. Earlier, W. Hovy had visited the section and entered the debate with amongst others F. Domela Nieuwenhuis, the leader of the Socialistenbond. Kuypers response to the letter was featured on the front page of Recht voor Allen. Kuyper wrote that he did not want to engage in a debate. He did not consider it desirable, especially since he had understood that the socialists wanted to discuss the report of Hovy’s appearance at the Socialistenbond in De Standaard.
