ET: So as not to be foolhardy, I must with profound regret let go of the hope of coming into your midst. Allow me therefore to send my brotherly greetings to the assembly. I am among you in spirit. The gravity of the moment also weighs upon my heart and I shall yield to none of you in heartfelt joy if it happens that the resolutions of your assembly bear the identifying signs of fraternity and firmness of principle worthy of the holiness of the matter for which we are joined in battle and by which we may count upon the assent of him whom in humility it is my glory and the honor of the brothers to serve.

De hoop van nog in uw midden te komen, moest ik, om niet roekeloos te zijn, tot mijn innig leedwezen laten varen. Vergunt mij daarom mijn broedergroet aan de vergadering te zenden. In den geest ben ik onder u. Ook mij weegt de ernst van het oogenblik op het hart en voor niemand uwer zal ik onderdoen in hartelijke blijdschap, indien blijken mag dat de besluiten uwer Vergadering het merkteeken dragen van broederzin en beginselvastheid, waardig het heilige der zaak, waarvoor we den strijd aanbonden en waarbij wij op de goedkeuring rekenen mogen van Hem, wien in nederigheid te dienen, mijn roem en de eere der broederen is.
