ET: To the Chairman of the Central Anti-Revolutionary Electoral Association in Sneek. In the papers I have read that the Central Association has nominated me as a candidate for the Second Chamber. As I stated to you during your visit of 3 November, I could not even consider becoming a candidate for Sneek unless the three parties of Anti-Revolutionaries, Christian-Historians, and Roman-Catholics wanted to put my name forward together. This appeared not to be the case. According at least to the papers’ statement, the Christian Historical party was not prepared to do so. Under these circumstances, I consider it my duty, in order to avoid a vote serving no purpose, to ask you to inform the Central Association that I cannot accept responsibility in any way for my candidature, and urgently request another candidate to be put in my place.

Aan den Voorzitter van de Centrale Antirevolutionaire Kiesvereeniging te Sneek. Uit de bladen zie ik, dat de Centrale mij candidaat heeft gesteld voor de Tweede kamer. Gelijk ik u bij uw bezoek op 3 november verklaarde, kon ik eene candidatuur voor Sneek zelfs niet in overweeging nemen, tenzij de drie partijen van Antirevolutionairen, Christelijk-Historischen en Rooms-Katholieken mij gezamenlijk candideeren wilden. Dit bleek niet het geval te zijn. Althans de bladen melden, dat de Christelijk-Historische partij hiertoe niet bereid was. Onder deze omstandigheden acht ik het, ter vermijding van een doelloze stemming, mijn plicht, u te verzoeken aan de Centrale te berichten, dat ik geenerlei verantwoordelijkheid voor mijn candidatuur aanvaarden kan, en haar dringend verzoek, een anderen candidaat in mijn plaats te stellen. After the death of its representative, H. Okma (1868–1907), the electoral district of Sneek had to elect another representative for the Second Chamber. The Central Anti-Revolutionary Electoral Association in Sneek sought to propose Kuyper as a candidate, likely referring back to Okma’s offer of his Second Chamber seat to Kuyper after the electoral defeat of June 1905 (cf. 1909.11). In his telegram Kuyper explains why he cannot consider becoming a candidate for the electoral district.
