In this article Kuyper discusses the historical context of recent developments within the Reformed Young Men’s Associations. The associations were moving beyond any one-sided emphasis on religious contemplation and study of Christian principles, partly in response to social changes caused by the war. Moreover, there was a growing interest among the associations in the spiritual dimensions of social, intellectual, and artistic ideas. Kuyper offers the associations a number of suggestions to help them do justice to and merge their broadened and diversified fields of interest.
